Privacy notice

Who we are

The Personalised Resistance Training Consortium (“the Consortium”, “we”, “our” or “us”) is an international, project-led research collaboration. For the personal data collected through this website, the data controller is Dr Antonio Dello Iacono, University of the West of Scotland, who coordinates the Consortium.

If you have any questions about this notice or about how your personal data is handled, you can contact us at antonio.delloiacono@uws.ac.uk.

This is an independent Consortium website. It is not a University of the West of Scotland website, and this notice is separate from the University’s own privacy notice. Any personal data you provide here is processed for the Consortium’s purposes as described below, not for University administration.

What information we collect

We collect personal information about you in the following ways:

• When you submit the application form. This includes the details you enter — your name, email address, and (where you choose to provide them) your institution or organisation, country or region, career stage, a link to your professional or ORCID profile, your chosen application pathway, any proposal abstract, your answers to the application questions, and your indication of how much time you can commit.
• When you contact us by email. If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include in your message.

We ask you not to submit confidential participant data, unpublished datasets, special-category (sensitive) personal data, or any material you are not authorised to share. Please only provide the information the form asks for.

How we use your information, and our lawful basis

Under the UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. We rely on the following:

• Consent. When you submit the application form, you tick a box confirming you consent to the information being used to consider your application and to contact you about it. You can withdraw this consent at any time (see “Your rights” below). Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew it.
• Legitimate interests. Where you contact us with a general enquiry, we process your information to respond to you, which is in our legitimate interest in running the Consortium and replying to those who get in touch. We will not process your data for the legitimate interests of any third party.

We use your information only to review and respond to your application or enquiry, to contact you about it, and to consider methodological fit, proposed contributions, and capacity across projects. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.

How your information is collected and processed

This website is hosted as static pages on GitHub Pages, which does not itself receive form submissions. When you submit the application form, your answers are transmitted through Formspree, a form-processing service that delivers your submission to us by email and retains a copy in our account’s dashboard so we do not lose applications. Formspree acts as a data processor on our behalf. You can read Formspree’s own privacy information at formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy.

The email we receive is held in the controller’s University of the West of Scotland email account. GitHub (which hosts the website) may process limited technical data such as your IP address as part of serving the page and for security; see GitHub’s privacy statement.

Cookies and analytics

This website does not set its own tracking or advertising cookies, and we do not run analytics that profile individual visitors. The fonts used on the site are loaded from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address as a technical necessity of delivering the font files. No behavioural tracking is performed by the Consortium.

Who we share your information with

Your information is accessible to the coordinator and, where relevant to assessing an application, to members of the Consortium involved in that review. Beyond that, we share your data only with the service providers that make the website and form work — namely Formspree (form delivery), GitHub (website hosting), and Google Fonts (font delivery) — and only to the extent necessary for those services to function. We do not pass your information to any third party for them to market to you.

International transfers

Some of the providers above (including Formspree, GitHub, and Google) are based in the United States, so your information may be transferred outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or the providers’ certification under the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep your information

We keep your application or enquiry only for as long as we need it. If your application is unsuccessful and you do not join the Consortium, we will delete your application data within 12 months of the decision, unless you ask us to remove it sooner. If you become a member, the relevant details are kept for the duration of your involvement and removed within a reasonable period afterwards. General email enquiries are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.

How we keep your information safe

We use reputable service providers that apply industry-standard security measures, access our accounts using strong, access-controlled credentials, and limit access to the information to those who need it. No transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and any transmission is at your own risk; but once we receive your information we take reasonable steps to protect it against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• ask for access to, and a copy of, the personal data we hold about you;
• ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
• ask us to erase your personal data;
• ask us to restrict or object to how we process your data;
• withdraw your consent at any time, where our processing relies on consent;
• request that we transfer, in a commonly used format, the data you provided to us by automated means (data portability).

To exercise any of these rights, email antonio.delloiacono@uws.ac.uk. Some of these rights are not absolute, and there may be occasions when we cannot meet a request in full; if so, we will explain why.

How to complain

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please contact us first so we can try to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO):
